About usA history of the Diablo III Database
History
The Diablo III Database (D3DB) was planned long before the game was even announced. Matt Durrant and Chris Haynes went out and registered the domain on May 17th 2007 with the intentions of building a database & set of tools for D3. Wowhead was a major influence for us, we wanted to give players something just as awesome for Diablo III.
On July 2nd, 2008 - just a few days after the game was announced at the Worldwide Invitational in Paris, we had the first functional version of the website up and running. Players were greeted by a Deckard Cain sprite with the caption "Greetings traveler, and welcome to your sanctuary from Sanctuary. The knowledge you'll find within these halls will prove invaluable in preparing yourself for battle with the Lord of Terror and his evil wherever it dwells. There are still many unknowns surrounding this latest threat to our world, but the records will be updated as more information comes to light.".
Our plan was to build D3DB under our then in-development social network for gamers. When the project was cancelled, D3DB became an independantly owned & operated fansite until January 4th, 2012 when we announced our partnership with the ZAM network - joining industry leading websites such as Wowhead, MMOUI, TankSpot and others. Since our launch, D3DB has evolved through 5 redesigns and 4 complete back-end overhauls. The site has been represented at every BlizzCon since 2008 and is among an elite few recognized as an official Blizzard fansite/influencer.
