Guide to the New Diablo III Database

We're excited to start rolling out the long-overdue revamped Diablo III Database (D3DB) website. We'll be phasing in more features/sections/content as the days go by, just so we have a chance to gather valuable feedback on what's already available to you guys.

Trading Platform

This was by far our most ambitious undertaking when preparing this update. Inspired by the large amount of players that currently hit web forums to trade items, we built an entire self-serve platform around Diablo III trading. Let's go over the features:
  • Search for items that other players are listing with filtering more powerful than the in-game auction house
  • Save your search filters to easily swap between common searches you perform
  • Access to the platform is protected behind an easy-to-setup BattleTag verification
  • No need to enter individual item stats, our API-powered trading system will let you import your character's items and easily list them for trade
  • List an unlimited amount of items that never expire (unless you are unresponsive to offers)
  • Accept offers of gold and/or other items through a user-friendly offer sheet interface
  • Accepting an offer automatically exchanges the buyer and seller's BattleTags and notifies them via e-mail
  • Take advantage of the reputation system, buyers and sellers can leave feedback for eachother at the end of the transaction!

New Data Features

Our database of millions of Diablo III heroes gives us an incredible amount of data to create some interesting leaderboards with. Our first idea was to improve on our less-than-helpful popular skill build list. On the old site this list was powered by user voting, and given how quickly things change in Diablo III, it quickly degraded into a pretty outdated list. We have solved this issue by creating a build leaderboard that ranks the most popular builds from actual players that have played their character within the past 14 days.

You'll notice throughout the skill pages that you can now see how many players use the skill, and how many players use each rune on the skill (if applicable). This data, like the leaderboard, is parsed periodically and only takes into account players that have played in the last 14 days.

BattleTag Verification

The new D3DB introduces a number of API-powered features, and by consequence your full BattleTag may be displayed throughout the site on leaderboards and profile pages. We take your privacy very seriously, and that's why we're happy to provide you with an option to hide your BattleTag's code wherever it's displayed. In order to access this option, you must first verify your BattleTag and then toggle the option in your account settings.

Note that participating in the trading platform will reveal your BattleTag to the buyer or seller in the event that your offer is accepted, or you accept an offer.

What's Still Coming

Unfortunately we couldn't fit everything into this initial roll-out. The skill calculator will be under maintenance for several days, and our new "Articles" section (replacing "News" on the previous website) will arrive shortly after. The character planner is a feature that's back on the drawing board, and we'll definitely return it to D3DB when it's a tool worthy of presenting to our esteemed userbase.

Please enjoy the fruits of our labor, if you run into any bugs or you have suggestions, you can easily drop us a line by hitting the "Feedback" link in the top right of every page.
