| To my Fellow Diablo Players, I would like to give my apologies in advance for this lengthy post. I have been following Diablo since I first purchased Diablo for my computer I got in 1998. Over the years I have grown to know and enjoy the world of sanctuary. Diablo 2 was installed on my computer since a few days after it came out and I still have an active account on Diablo 2 LOD US East (Ladder). The real thing that troubles me about Diablo 3 is the fact that they are taking out many of the elements that we expect from a game with the Diablo name. Before any details emerged about the content of Diablo 3, I had informed my friends that there would be two reasons why I would not purchase D3. The first stipulation was that if they made stat points auto-assigned. The second stipulation was if they got rid of the ever-powerful potion. Sure enough my worst dream had become a reality. The stat points that we all diligently worked on to figure out what would make our character the best, were removed from an area of the game that we could control. Why is this bad? This is bad because the stat point was what added another dimension to character building and customization. If you wanted to build a Sorceress with a ton STR and DEX and give her a PB full of Shael’s and enchant yourself right before you turned into a bear you could do so. But if stat points are taken away we can no longer make our silly builds that were so fun to play. If you play any class you are forced into the stat assignment of that particular class. For those of you who don’t think it’s a bad idea because auto assigned stats is what WoW does then I question you by asking… What were the stats like in Diablo and Diablo 2? Those two games (Diablo in particular) changed the gaming industry upon its release in Nov 30, 1996. I know some of you would be tempted to say that WoW is a great game… But so was Diablo. I know that the items will no longer have stat requirements but the funny thing is that if you have the same gear as another character that is the same class as you the stats you have are the same too. I know that as far as pvp and pve is concerned at least in Diablo 2 if I had the same gear as another level 95 barbarian he might not be able to stand amongst the minions at baal and hack away but because of how I put my STATS I was able to survive. Another qualm that I have with this new twist on the Diablo franchise is the fact that potions aren’t going to be as plentiful and they are going to have a cool-down. Can anyone say WoW again? It is fine if blizzard wants to take ideas from a game that they had great success with but Diablo and the world of warcraft are separate entities and thus should remain that way. I definitely must say that I never thought that they would do this to Diablo. I don’t know what all of you will be choosing to do upon the release of Diablo but I and quite a few members of the two guilds that I am in on Diablo 2 will not be purchasing it. Unfortunately I can not give a count of how many do not wish to buy Diablo 3 the one guild I am in has over 480 members and the other has over 120. If many of us stand together we could possibly get the world of sanctuary to change once again back into a more familiar shape. Thanks for reading my post I hope you enjoy it and comment. -Raw_Talent (ign and accnt name) I will be following this post so if you do have any questions or comments I will reply. |
