What is "Diablo"?

Diablo is a fantasy-themed action RPG developed by Blizzard North and released by Blizzard Entertainment in early 1997, followed by Diablo II in 2000, and a third game, Diablo III, was announced on June 28th, 2008 at Blizzard's World Wide Invitational (WWI) in Paris, France.

What is the objective of "Diablo"?

The objective is to conquer the evil plaguing the world of Sanctuary, and ultimately destroy Diablo, the Lord of Terror. Each player chooses a class and uses their class abilities to destroy evil wherever it's hiding. As you destroy more of Diablos minions, your character gains experience and levels up, unlocking new abilities for your class.

What's new with Diablo III?

Not much is known at this time. We do know there is at least one NEW class, the Witch Doctor, which was unveiled at the WWI event alongside the game itself. There is also a new graphics engine, which allows the game to display everything to you in full 3d environments.

How many classes will be playable in Diablo III and what are they?

There are five classes total, and only two classes have been announced thusfar. A fan favorite, the Barbarian, is back in this installment of the franchise with exciting new abilities that will make him feel like a new & unique class. A new class, Witch Doctor, was revealed during the first gameplay movie, but not much is known about him yet other than the abilities he demonstrated which are documented on the class page.

Will players finally be able to choose the gender of their character?

Yes. A player can now create a male or female character of any class.

How will the inventory work in Diablo III?

Diablo III introduces a new element to inventory management with the addition of four bag slots. In previous installments of the franchise, bag space was very limited and it appears this is Blizzards solution to that problem. From early impressions, comparisons can be drawn to World of Warcraft's inventory management.

What will the item qualities on loot be?

The gameplay video showed four different types of item quality colors:

- White (Normal)
- Blue (Magical, assumed)
- Purple (Epic?, Set?, Super Unique? other...?)
- Gold (Unique? other...?)

Due to the limited amount of information it's impossible to know the meaning behind the colors for sure. We will update you as we learn more.

Will characters be able to see any familiar faces from the previous installments of the franchise?

Yes. Deckard Cain is once again by your side to help battle the evil of Diablo, and others will be revealed during gameplay. It is not known yet which characters from previous installments will be there to aid you on your journey this time.

Will players be able to visit any familiar areas from the previous installments of the franchise?

Yes. Players will be able to return to Tristram and other areas from the previous installments of the franchise as well as explore completely NEW areas of Sanctuary.

What is questing going to be like in Diablo III?

The quest arc and mechanics are not yet known, but it was revealed that you can expect brand new class-specific questlines in addition to the normal main story.

Yes. As always, you can choose to adventure solo if that's what you want.

Will Diablo III be available over battle.net?

Absolutely, and there are new and exciting features from battle.net to enhance the experience of all who choose to play there. Specifics are not known yet, but as soon as we know, you'll know!

How many players will be able to join a game session?

Four players were on hand to battle evil during the gameplay video, but previous Diablo games allowed up to EIGHT players per session. The exact number remains to be seen, but you can almost certainly expect to do battle with at least 8 of your friends.

Again, that information is not available. When and if a beta is announced, we will be sure to let you know as soon as possible.

Will Diablo III be available in multiple countries?

Blizzard revealed that it is their intention to release the game to as many countries and in as many languages as possible. It is not known however, just how many will be available at launch. More details about countries, languages and specific release dates will be released closer to game launch.

Yes. As with all new Blizzard releases, Diablo III will be available for both platforms.
