Dragon Age Origins Gifts

While playing Dragon Age Origins, every choice you decide will influence the relationship between you and your companions that you meet during the game.

The rate in which they develop to trust you is called Approval Ratings. The higher they are, the more chances you can enhance party members usefulness.

But,

In case you reckon that the Approval Ratings of a particular character is too low, there is another way to boost by giving “gifts” as you travel through Ferelden.

A first glance at gifts

What is a gift in Dragon Age Origins?

Here you can find “gifts” by looting boxes or exchanging with merchants.

As outlined above,

Giving gifts to the certain characters will influence the Approval Ratings. Depending on each gift’s value, the party members will appreciate more or less.

Besides,

The approval bonus you receive from each following gift will lessen by 1 (to a minimum of +1 approval) per gift for each additional gift brought to the same character.

How to send a gift to the companion?

dragon age origins gifts 1

First of all, you need to open your Inventory. Then choose the character you want to give the gift and highlight it.

  • For Xbox 360, tap A.
  • For PS3, tap X and left on the radial menu.
  • For PC, hold the right and left click on the menuto drag and drop the gift on the character or simply double-click the gift.
  • For Mac, hold the right and left click on the menu or drag and drop the gift on the character.

How do gifts work?

  • +5 is the base approval for any gift with decreasing returns. For instance, you can get +5 approval for the first gift, but then you only receive +4 approval for the second one.
  • Meanwhile, special gifts give more +5 approval, i.e., +10. Or you can find some gifts with +15. But, NOTE that the following gift penalty only applies +6 approval per item.
  • In case you have negative approval, your bonuses will be divided. That means you get +5 approval for your favored ones.
  • Since you cannot surpass points, you will get no approval points for the gift if attaining the maximum.
  • If you work to enhance your approval with a character, they will get a small skill upgrade since your leadership stimulates them. For example, you can receive +1 approval if attaining 25% skill or +2 approval for 50%.
