Italian News Site Rumors the Diablo III Release Date to be April 17th

Posted March 3rd, 2012 at 8:50pm by Astray
The internet is abuzz this morning with speculation based on a rumor found on the Italian blog MMORPGItalia. The article states that the Italian branch of Activision has informed major retailers that D3 will be released on April 17th. Amazon's Italian site has updated their product pages to reflect this story.

Similar rumors have hit the web on foreign websites in the past which turned out to be inaccurate. There is absolutely nothing concrete to back this rumor, so I'll let you form your own opinion. Here's a translation of the story, thanks to Reddit user Nikso.

Activision Italia revealed to various major Italian retailers the release date of Diablo III, still to be confirmed to world wide media by Blizzard. It would be the 17th of April and prices are €54,90 for standard edition and €89,90 for the collector.

Given that the source is the publisher's Italian branch, I'd say that post-Easter for all fans eagerly waiting the release of the game will be more than positive. After all, D3 has been basically ready since quite a while, and the recent declarations were crafted to increase hype even more.

I did some digging since I remembered Bashiok chiming in on an Amazon discussion back in December. It's worth mentioning that despite better judgment being clouded by the sheer joy of possibly knowing the release date, this story should be met with an appropriate level of skepticism. His quote has a haunting level of relevance to this story 3 months later.

Hah. So Amazon.de has the super secret inside scoop of release dates and Amazon.com doesn't? That's rich. Why would we tell any retailer a release date? Let alone a German specific outlet of a single retailer?

Retailers will find out the release date the same time you do.

Given the situation, any April 17th guesses on our release date contest will be ineligible to win unless they were posted before the "leak". This restriction will lift if this rumor is put to rest by an official Blizzard source.
